Project Updates

1 October 2019

Bushfield Drive

Work is now underway in Bushfield Drive. We are currently working in the area of Denton Close and  progressing well. Traffic is being managed with two-way temporary traffic lights to ensure the safety of our workforce and other road users..

Why is this work necessary?

The current water mains, which date from 1912, can no longer cope with demand. This has contributed to a number of bursts and leaks in the area over recent years leaving customers without water and causing disruption through emergency road works.

What does it involve?

The project will involve laying approximately 1.3km of new main along most of Bushfield Drive, The Brow, Masons Bridge Road and part of Spencer Way. It is a major project that will be completed in a number of phases, each one with four stages.

The leaflet Keep your water flowing explains the four stages needed to lay a water main and answers some key questions customers sometimes ask such as, why their road hasn’t been fully restored or why we start excavating again so soon after having completed laying a water main.

Traffic management

Due to the location of the existing water main, and a number of other utilities already in the ground, we will be required to work in the public highway. Therefore, traffic management will be required to keep residents, motorists and our workforce safe. This will include the use of temporary traffic signals. We will keep these pages updated with the latest information.

Timetable of work

The project will be split into four phases, which will run consecutively in accordance with the approximate dates below, starting week commencing 2 September 2019:
