17 October 2018

As highlighted in the traffic management section below, for the safety of our teams on site and other road users, we need to close Kingsland for the full duration of the project except for over the Christmas period when the road will be temporarily reopened.

Our works will start at the junction of Village Street and progress westwards for a distance of 450m. The road will be closed in 100m sections at a time, however access will be maintained for residents and emergency services.

Depending on the exact location of our works, residents will be asked to use either the Village Street or Trig Street entrance to Kingsland. For up to date details on our exact location please continue to check this page for the latest updates.

We have contacted the local bus companies and refuse collection contractors to inform them of the coming road closure. If you experience any issues with either of these services, please contact Surrey County Council. With regards to personal deliveries, we ask that you make the relevant company aware that a signed diversion route will be in place from 29 October.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience our essential works may cause and thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation going forward.

Welcome to the Kingsland Mains Replacement Project Page.

Further to the letter which was sent to residents on 12 October and the number of contacts we have received from customers today, we have decided to postpone this scheme until week commencing 29 October to allow residents and commuters time to plan their journey’s whilst the road is closed. Please accept our apologies for any confusion this delay may cause.

Please continue to check this page regularly for the latest updates and information, or if you have any specific queries, please contact out customer service team on 01737 772000.

Why is The Work Necessary?

Large parts of the network mains in this area were laid in the 1920’s and the pipes are now reaching the end of their operational life. We have assessed, through analysis of recent failures, that mains replacement is required in the identified areas. These improvements will ensure that we continue to provide a high quality and reliable service for many years to come.

What Does It Involve?

The project will involve laying approximately 450m of new High Performance Polyethylene water main in Kingsland as well as renewing the service connections to all properties. This will allow us to decommission the existing cast iron” mains which date back to the 1920’s.

Traffic Management

Due to the need to work in the highway, which is where the old water main is laid, and a number of other utility pipes and cables already in the ground that will need to be avoided, we will need to use some traffic management to keep residents, motorists and our workforce safe. This will include the installation of a road closure on Kingsland, Newdigate for the duration of the project.

Road closures are used when we cannot provide the required legal distances around our works. However, please be assured we will ensure all customers within the closures will still have access their properties.

All traffic management arrangements and necessary diversions were agreed in advanced with Surrey Highways. Please click here to view the approved diversion route which will be in place on day one of the project.

Timetable of Work

The estimated start date is: Week commencing 29 October 2018

We plan to be completed by: February 2019

Our delivery partner Clancy Docwra will be working 7:30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Will water supplies be cut off?

Water supplies will continue as normal while the old water main is being replaced, apart from temporary interruptions as properties are individually connected to the new water main. During this work your water supply will be interrupted for 30 to 60 minutes.

We will make sure those customers whose water supply is directly affected by these works are notified in advance.

What does this mean for businesses, schools and organisations in the area?

We understand the work we carry out on our water mains can cause disruption and we want to work closely with local businesses, schools and other organisations to help ease any impact.

We would encourage organisations to contact us on 01737 772000 so we can:

  • Work closely to plan the specific timing, location and duration of works in the area

  • Work together to ensure deliveries can get through and customers can still access any shops, restaurants and businesses

  • Provide extra signage to ensure everyone knows it is “business as usual”

  • Share information on the scheme to be circulated to residents, customers, employees etc.

Where our work leads to unavoidable disruption to the usual operation of businesses, and in particular where there is clear evidence that our work has had an impact on the profits, we will pay compensation for that loss. Please follow link http://www.waterplc.com/pages/business/your-bill-and-account/business/loss-of-profit-claims/ for more information about our policy for loss of businesses.
