Blindley Heath

As part of the agreement with our regulator Ofwat, we are delivering several resilience schemes to ensure that more of our customers can receive water from more than one source - this means the likelihood of losing your water supply is reduced.

Working with our delivery partner Murphy, our next scheme is to lay a new 800mm diameter water main, 4.3km in length, from Blindley Heath to Outwood reservoir. The route is mainly across fields but we will have to cross some roads and a bridleway to complete our works. We have also set up a site compound on the A22 Eastbourne Road to support construction. We hope to complete this scheme by November 2019.

Project updates

9 September

Work to lay the new water main is progressing well. To date we have been working cross-country but have now reached the stage where we need to direct the main across the road. To ensure that we're working safely at all times we must close specific roads as required.

The table below details planned closure dates and duration. Resident access only will be maintained during closures. There is a clearly signposted diversion route in place. Please see the Traffic Management section below for a map.

Road Date Closure Approx. Duration
Brickhouse Lane 9 September 5 days
Whitewood Lane 16 September 5 days
Horne Court Hill 23 September 5 days
Wilmots Lane 30 September 5 days

We apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause and thank you, in advance, for your co-operation and patience.

Traffic management

While we lay the new pipe across Brickhouse Lane, Whitewood Lane, Horne Court Hill and Wilmots Lane, we will have to close each road, one at a time, for up to five days – this is to ensure the safety of both members of the public and our crew. The closures are in place from 9 September and this map provides more information.

Your water supply

There will be no long term negative impact on your water supply during the construction phase. However, we may have to temporarily interrupt your supply while we connect the new pipe to the existing water network. If this is the case, we will provide advance warning in writing.

Working hours

We will work between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. We don’t normally work outside these hours unless there is an emergency. Our staff on site will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
