Introduction to e-billing

Sutton and East Surrey Water was the first utility in the UK to offer e-billing to its customers. We can now offer you three services.

We want to make our services as successful as possible as they are a great step forward in customer service and are also very environmentally friendly.

As with any other introduction of new technology there are alway new questions and queries raised by our customers. With the addition of the new services we have now enlarged this section to try and answer your questions.

What is e-billing?

The 'e' in e-billing simply stands for electronic. In other words 'electronic billing'.

In its simplest form this means that rather than seeing a physical representation of a bill, or other customer information, printed onto a sheet of paper and delivered to your door, you will view an electronic representation of that bill by visiting a website. You can then pay your account by using one of the paperless payment methods.

However this is just one of the on-line facilities available to our e-billing customers. Depending on the service that you choose other facilities may be available. For example, SESWVCC customers with a metered supply who have viewed an estimated bill can view an illustrated guide on how to read their own meter and then submit their readings to us.

e-billing is covered by our 'Customer Charter' in exactly the same way as the traditional paper based billing. For more details please see the Charter section of this website.

Why are we committed to e-billing?

We are offering e-billing because surveys have shown us that more than 30% of our customers are on-line at home. We see direct communication as the future for many of our customers.

While we will be retaining all present enquiry and emergency services, contact via the internet does provide more 24 hour facilities for customers. Also we believe it will reduce the cost of having to deal with many routine enquires.

One of the other main advantages of e-billing is that it avoids us having to print and post bills and leaflets and is therefore good for our environment.

Who can use this new service?

Customers using the e-billing service must also be paying using one of our paperless payment methods.

Commercial customers who are on-line via a corporate internet connection may experience problems when using e-billing. One reason for this can be that their employers computer system (specifically, their firewall) blocks the use of 'Secure Socket Layer' (SSL) which is needed to access our system. If you are having problems please contact your computer department and show them this page before contacting us.
