The £8.3 million first phase of our project to improve and upgrade Bough Beech treatment works has been completed. Treatment capacity was increased from 36 million litres a day (Ml/d) to 45 Ml/d.
A second phase began in September 2010. This £17.7 million scheme is scheduled for completion in 2015. It will further increase capacity to between 50 and 55 Ml/d and includes network improvements to better distribute the increased supply.
Our ultimate aim is to increase treatment capacity to 70 Ml/d.
This scheme is ensuring long-term security of supply for customers. It provides back-up support for groundwater sources during periods of peak demand while increasing our flexibility and drought resilience.
