Business Plan 2015-2020

Charges ‘flat’ in Business Plan
In December 2013 we submitted our proposed Business Plan for the next five years (2015-2020) to the industry's regulator Ofwat. It followed the most comprehensive customer and stakeholder consultation process ever undertaken by the company and committed to:

•    keeping average bills at current levels before inflation,
•    introducing a social tariff to help customers in genuine financial difficulty,
•    continuing to reduce leakage which is already close to the lowest level in the industry.

A summary of our Business Plan.

Following extensive engagement with UK water companies, Ofwat published draft determinations on 29 August. These set out the regulator’s view on what service levels, expenditure and customer bills should be for 2015 – 2020.

These views have been published for all UK water companies, customer representatives and other stakeholders to comment on before the regulator makes final determinations in December 2014.

At the same time, the Company’s independent Customer Challenge Group, which played a crucial role in scrutinising our future plans and proposed water bills, submitted its own response to the draft determination.

Ofwat’s final determination for Sutton and East Surrey Water.

On 12 December 2014, Ofwat, the water industry’s economic regulator, announced its decisions on the level of customers’ water bills in England and Wales from 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2020.

The regulator’s decision envisages that Sutton and East Surrey Water’s average domestic water bill will reduce by 3% from the current £186 a year to £180 a year (before inflation) by 2019/20.

As part of the review process, the Company will now consider whether to accept Ofwat’s decision, or ask for it to be referred to the Competition and Markets Authority to make an independent, final decision on what the levels of customers’ bills should be from 2015 – 2020.
