Surrey water efficiency advice for South Korea - 08/03/2010

The water efficient activities of Surrey residents are set to be viewed on South Korean television.

Production company KBS Busan has recently been filming in Redhill and Merstham as part of a feature highlighting the need to save water and resources.  Like the south east of England, South Korea has limited water resources for a growing population and more efficient water-use is becoming a national objective.

Why Redhill and Merstham?  KBS Busan (KBSB) production manager Seon-Ju Choi, explained:  “When I researched what UK water companies are doing to promote and encourage water efficiency measures, Sutton and East Surrey Water came out clearly as one of the leading companies. I contacted them and was delighted that they agreed to share their knowledge and experience in this field.”

Fortunately for KBSB, Sutton and East Surrey water is also currently actively involved in Tap into Savings – the UK’s biggest water and energy saving project – aiming to help people in nearly 1,000 homes in Redhill and Merstham save water and energy, as well as money on household bills.

This meant that a filmed interview took place with Raven Housing Trust resident Conrad Roskell at his Merstham home, recently provided with free water and energy efficient devices as part of the Tap into Savings project. Distribution Engineer Alison Murphy of Sutton and East Surrey Water was filmed explaining how simple changes to toilets, taps and showers can help make significant water savings, without radically changing personal lifestyles.

Water metering also came under the KBSB spotlight, and Jeremy Heath, Development Engineer of Sutton and East Surrey Water was interviewed on its usage within the company’s supply area.

Supported by the Korean Broadcasting Network in Europe (KBNE UK), KBS Busan filming has also taken place with Waterwise and the Environment Agency, partners in the Tap into Savings project along with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, Global Action Plan, Raven Housing Trust and Sutton and East Surrey Water.

Tap into Savings is also being delivered in the Midlands and East Anglia later this year and will eventually involve more than 10,000 people. Tap into Savings results will be evaluated and announced later this year. For more Tap into Savings information visit www.tapintosavings.org
